If you ever read your horoscope or study numerology, Biorhythms may be a concept that interests you. The idea behind Biorhythms is that we all follow rhythmic cycles that influence our daily lives. The cycle begins at birth and repeats throughout our lives. It is a method that can be used to predict the high and low points in our lives. Biorhythms were first discussed in the 1800s when a physician and friend of Sigmund Freud by the name of Wilhelm Fliess determined that our lives are made up of 23 and 28-day cycles. This is a concept that eventually grew in popularity in the ’60s and ’70s but continues to be found useful even today.
The Biorhythm Model
The Biorhythm is comprised of three cycles:
- Physical – 23 days long- sin (2Πt / 23)
- Physical strength
- Sex drive
- Hand and eye coordination
- Metabolic rate
- Emotional- 28 days long-sin (2Πt / 28)
- Emotional stability
- Intellectual- 33 days long- sin (2Πt /33)
When charted, you will look at 3 different points on the chart:
When the line is above the midpoint on your chart (plus), you are on a positive upswing physically, emotionally, and/or intellectually. When it dips below the midpoint (minus), you are on a downswing and need to take extra care. When it crosses the midpoint (Zero), this marks what is considered a critical period. If two or more of the waves cross the midpoint at the same point, this is considered a very critical period. Research on Biorhythms has shown that it is worthwhile to take the appropriate measures to avoid certain injuries and accidents associated with critical periods.
If you are new to Biorhythms, this can all be quite confusing. The good news is: With the proper Biorhythm training and tools, you can ride these waves and use these cycles to your advantage. Many people have found success by doing so. If nothing else, it can be a great way to know when to give yourself a little extra TLC.
